product review: isle of paradise self tanning drops + body butter
we’ve had a few sunny days here in new hampshire but not enough to make me feel bronzed so i recently ordered tanning drops and self tanning body lotion by isle of paradise! keep reading for all my tips and a review of both of these products.
before i use any type of self tanner, i shower first. i definitely recommend shaving and exfoliating and using a cleanser on your face. once i’m out of the shower, i completely dry off before putting anything on my body or face.
when using the tanning lotion - my tip is to use a generous amount of lotion. the first time i used it, i was stingy with the amount of lotion i was using and it ended up being a little blotchy and wasn’t an even tan. now that i’m using a decent amount of lotion - i don’t have any problems with it being streaky. i also like to put my normal body lotion on before using the tanning lotion - just to make sure there are not any super dry areas that the tan will stick to.
the tanning drops can also be used on your body but i personally prefer to use the lotion because i would rather save the drops for my face. i read online that you can also mix the drops and the lotion together for a deeper, darker tan.
i normally shower at night and put the self tanner on right after. i wait about 10 minutes before getting dressed just to avoid any streaks. the bottle says it takes 4-6 hours for the tan to be noticeable so when i wake up i have a tan! i have white sheets and i have not had any problems with it showing up on my bedding which is a huge plus.
when using the drops on your face - my tip is to mix it in with your favorite moisturizer. i put the moisturizer on my face and then mix it together with the drops. i use 3-4 drops on my face - on my cheeks, chin and forehead. be careful not to mix in the tan with your eyebrows as i have heard it can make your eyebrows look a little orange. also - make sure to mix it into your hairline to avoid a harsh line.
i know this is unusual but i do not use a tanning mitt. so after using the drops and lotion - i scrub my hands with soap to avoid it transferring onto my palms. make sure to put lotion on your hands though otherwise there will be a harsh line from your wrist to your hand.
i truly think this tanner is idiot proof. sometimes i can be lazy with self tanners - i apply them too fast and don’t really wait for it to ‘dry’ before getting dressed. but with this product - i haven’t had any issues. as always with self tanners, i would just be mindful or areas like your elbows, knees and ankles since those tend to look orange after applying a self tanner.
also - a huge plus of these products is the smell! i personally hate the smell of most self tanners but i have not had any problems with that after using the lotion or the drops. they actually smell pretty good!
i use the medium shade in the tanning drops and think it’s perfect. it gives me a natural glow without it being super noticeable that i used a self tanner! the body lotion only comes in one shade right now but i think it was perfect. i would say i have a fair complexion - not too pale normally. for those who are on the lighter side - i would recommend trying the ‘light’ tanning drops first to avoid an orange tint.
overall - i highly recommend both of these products! i’m pretty sure the body butter is only available from QVC - that’s where i ordered mine. i ordered it the last week of march and it didn’t come until mid may but it was worth it!
